Director of Religious Education
Nichole earned a Bachelor of Arts in music education from The State University of New York at Fredonia and a Master of Science in labor studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is a teacher, labor rights activist, and is passionate about creating meaningful connections with others. She also loves theater, travel, singing and spending time with her family. Nichole lives in Reston, Virginia with her husband Ashar, and two boys, Zachiriah and Tobias. She has been the Director of Religious Education at UUCF since July 2018.
Deborah Int Veldt
Deb has a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Maryland in addition to many years of private instruction in vocal performance. Since 1994, she has been a part of the Frederick Chorale, and currently serves as the soprano section leader. Deb is also a Washington County Master Gardener and local food advocate with a small commercial garden operation called Harmony Gardens. She enjoys sewing, quilting and other fiber arts. She danced on a professional clogging team for ten years, and enjoys square- and contra-dancing. Deb is married to Nick Int Veldt, noted pianist and Frederick musician. They live in Hagerstown with their small flock of laying hens. Deb has been the music director at UUCF since fall 2013.
Nick Int Veldt
Nick has enjoyed a long and varied musical career as accompanist, director, arranger, composer, and collaborator. After joining The Frederick Chorale in 1990 as a baritone, he became the ensemble's accompanist in 2003. He simultaneously served as assistant director for a number of years. Nick also served the congregation of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick for over thirty years as accompanist and/or director of various musical ensembles, eventually becoming Assistant Director of Music Ministry. Nick maintains a large piano studio of about thirty students of all ages and levels. Nick also enjoys hiking, bicycling, and spending time with his wife, UUCF Music Director, Deborah. Nick has been the Choral Accompanist at UUCF since fall 2014.
Jen Raffensperger is pursuing her Master of Divinity degree at Meadville Lombard Theological School. She brings with her a passion for learning and interpersonal connection, several years’ experience working as a religious educator and OWL facilitator for children and youth, a hard-fought B.A. degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland at College Park (completed 25 years after she graduated from high school!), and a deep desire to serve this faith community and the larger community of Unitarian Universalism by following her call to ordained ministry.
Karen recently retired as Director of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning at Frederick Community College. She holds a B.S. in Languages and Linguistics from Georgetown University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and is currently pursuing a Masters' degree in Adult and Continuing Education. Karen enjoys reading, all sorts of fiber work (knitting and quilting) and learning in all its forms. She joined the UUCF staff in 2016.
Wendy has worked as a bookkeeper for The Common Market and most recently as the Accounting Manager at a non-profit in Washington, D.C. She recently relocated to the Jefferson area and is looking forward to semi-retirement from her full-time position. She looks forward to spending more time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys reading, puzzles, and knitting. She joined the UUCF staff in 2016.
Rick has more than 25 years of experience in repair, service management, and facility maintenance. And he is knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of the construction trades. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, 1968 - 1974. Rick joined the UUCF staff in 2015.
Susan Singley is Acting Director and a teacher at the Circle of Life Preschool.
Rick Holt is the webmaster for the UUCF website and a member of the Committee on Ministry. He is a 4th generation Unitarian Universalist and also webmaster for the StarArts conference at Star Island. Formerly a programmer at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, now retired.
