Our Goals and Philosophy

If your goal, as a parent, is to raise your child to mirror your own beliefs, this is not the place. If your goal is to be a loving and accepting companion to your children as they journey on their own quest for religious meaning, this is the place and that is also our goal. -Anita Jeck, Religious Educator

Welcome to a place where every person can grow, learn, and laugh in a friendly, loving, and safe environment. On Sunday, and during the entire week, there a many wonderful opportunities for Lifespan Religious Education. We invite you to join us on your quest for religious meaning.

We look forward to your participation in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick Community. If you have questions or wish to talk, please give us a call.

Peace and Blessings,

Our Mission Statement:
We, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick, are a socially and spiritually welcoming congregation of life-long learners. We embrace social justice, caring for the earth, fairness and peace. By living our UU Principles, we aspire to diversity, compassion, and respect, in our lives, community and world.

We believe and promote lifespan religious education for all ages.  Our Religious Education Program strives to teach all of us:

  • About the beliefs, history, and practices of Unitarian Universalism by accepting and celebrating diversity among us and the need for a free and open search for ultimate meaning.
  • To appreciate the rich traditions of Judeo-Christianity from which our religious movement first came.
  • To grow in our own spiritual self-awareness as worthy people.  All of us are encouraged to reflect on our beliefs about God, religion, morality, and this universe to which we belong.

For our children, our Religious Education Program strives:

  • To create a supportive social community within the classroom in which each child is a respected and valued member of the group.
  • To encourage children to reflect on their beliefs about God, religion, social issues, social responsibility, and community.
  • To help children become principled, ethical people who act upon these values and to recognize and celebrate diversity.
  • To teach about the beliefs and practices of Unitarian Universalism and other religious traditions.

In order to make this possible, our program seeks to create a supportive social community within our congregation in which each of us, including our children, are respected and valued.  We uphold the right of all of us to be included in this effort while maintaining a safe and healthy environment in which we can explore and grow.  We believe in using imagination and creativity as means to achieving these learning goals.
