Jannon Baer & Mattye Hamilton
We welcome to the Blanche Ames Gallery to two fine artists, Jannon Baer and Mattye Hamilton. Their show, "Of Sun and Sea" uses abstract styles of painting to bring the beauty and joy of the seaside to our walls. The show opens on Sunday, June 3 with a reception and artists' talk, 12:30-2:00 p.m. Blanche Ames Gallery is located in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick, 4880 Elmer Derr Road, Frederick, MD 21703. Please call 301-473-7680 if planning to visit the gallery at times other than the opening reception.
Combining collage with raw materials from nature, Jannon Baer has featured her work throughout Maryland for the past 15 years. Recent exhibitions include the Washington County Arts Council Gallery and Regenerate Float Spa in Hagerstown, The Expanding Heart Center of Frederick, Sunlight Natural Health in Timonium, and the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute). Jannon is a member of the Hagerstown Artists Group, an organization that works to connect local artists and promote the arts in the community through volunteer projects. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Shepherd University with a major in painting and a minor in printmaking.
Mattye Hamilton, painter and printmaker, lives in Baltimore. She received her BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her luscious, unexpected combinations of color, pattern and line infuse her work with equal measures of nature and style. "I want my surfaces to radiate light and tease emotion." Hamilton's work has been exhibited throughout Baltimore, including the Creative Alliance, Columbia Art Center, The Alchemy of Art, MAX gallery, and Hamilton Gallery. Her paintings and works on paper are on permanent display at Fleckenstein Gallery in Baltimore. Her work has been published in Baltimore Magazine, Shape and MS.
