The Rev. Dr. Carl Gregg

Minister


Rev. Carl (he/him) has been the minister at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick since 2012. He holds a Doctor of Ministry and a Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy (cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Furman University. He has been a full-time minister since his ordination in 2003, and served two congregations prior to UUCF. He is an authorized Meditation Teacher through Buddhist Geeks, and is a featured blogger on Patheos (patheos.com/blogs/carlgregg). Carl was married in 2007 to Magin LaSov Gregg. They live in downtown Frederick, Maryland along with their cats (Kol Nidre and Shamash), dog (Scout), and son (Jaylen Phoenix Gregg).

Melissa Rosenberger, MSW

Director of Religious Education (DRE)

Melissa (she/her) holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Hispanic Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master's degree in social work from Shippensburg University. Through her leadership, she offers a path of compassion that honors and supports the dignity and worth of all people, as well as fostering an environment that encourages children and youth to side with equity and justice. She lives in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with her family and two rescued beagles. She has been the DRE at UUCF since August 2022.

Deborah Int Veldt

Music Director

Deb has a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Maryland in addition to many years of private instruction in vocal performance. Since 1994, she has been a part of the Frederick Chorale, and currently serves as the soprano section leader. Deb is also a Washington County Master Gardener and local food advocate with a small commercial garden operation called Harmony Gardens. She enjoys sewing, quilting and other fiber arts. She danced on a professional clogging team for ten years, and enjoys square- and contra-dancing. Deb is married to Nick Int Veldt, noted pianist and Frederick musician. They live in Hagerstown with their small flock of laying hens. Deb has been the music director at UUCF since fall 2013.

Nick Int Veldt

Choral Accompanist

Nick has enjoyed a long and varied musical career as accompanist, director, arranger, composer, and collaborator. After joining The Frederick Chorale in 1990 as a baritone, he became the ensemble's accompanist in 2003. He simultaneously served as assistant director for a number of years. Nick also served the congregation of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick for over thirty years as accompanist and/or director of various musical ensembles, eventually becoming Assistant Director of Music Ministry. Nick maintains a large piano studio of about thirty students of all ages and levels. Nick also enjoys hiking, bicycling, and spending time with his wife, UUCF Music Director, Deborah. Nick has been the Choral Accompanist at UUCF since fall 2014.

Derail Holcomb

Intern Minister

Derail graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 2019 with a Master of Divinity degree and a certificate in Urban Ministry. He will be on UUCF Staff from August 2023 to June 2024.

Karen Reilly

Office Administrator

Karen recently retired as Director of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning at Frederick Community College. She holds a B.S. in Languages and Linguistics from Georgetown University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and holds a Masters' degree in Adult and Continuing Education. Karen enjoys reading, all sorts of fiber work (knitting and quilting) and learning in all its forms. She joined the UUCF staff in 2016.

Wendy Smith

Bookkeeper and Rental Coordinator

Wendy has worked as a bookkeeper for The Common Market and most recently as the Accounting Manager at a non-profit in Washington, D.C. She recently relocated to the Jefferson area and is looking forward to semi-retirement from her full-time position. She looks forward to spending more time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys reading, puzzles, and knitting. She joined the UUCF staff in 2016.

Sarah Dimiceli

Teacher for Circle of Life Cooperative (CLC) Preschool

Sarah earned a BFA with a certification in Education from Frostburg State University in 2005 and a Master of Humanities from Hood College in 2014. She taught elementary art from 2005 to 2013. Prior to teaching for Circle of Life she served as the Administrative Director for two years. Sarah lives in Frederick with her husband Frank and two children, who are Circle of Life graduates themselves. Sarah loves volunteering with local organizations, reading nonfiction, cooking, and spending time outdoors. Sarah joined the UUCF staff in 2021.

Rick Holt

Webmaster

Rick is the webmaster for the UUCF website. He has been a Unitarian Universalist for 53 years, serving as President of the Rockville, Md and Mt Kisco, NY societies. Rick is a fourth generation Unitarian Universalist, and grandson and great-grandson of Unitarian ministers. Formerly a programmer at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, he is now retired.
